Padel in the UK has hit a landmark. According to Padel Genie's live court map, the country had 3,053 courts across 890 clubs as of 24 October 2026. Around 1.5 million people in Britain now play, according to the LTA, up from roughly 860,000 at the end of last year.
The North West is leading the way
The UK averages 4.5 courts for every 100,000 people. The North West sits at about 6.5, level with Northern Ireland and well ahead of London on 3.8. If you live in Southport, Formby, Liverpool or Preston, you have more places to play than most of the country, and more are coming. Councils approved 572 new schemes in the last year, with more than 1,200 courts to follow, and the founder of Padel Genie expects 4,000 courts to be open within 12 months.
What it means for you
Easier access. More courts mean shorter waits for bookings, more competitive prices, and more choice of venues, indoors and outdoors.
A bigger community. Women's Americano nights, social leagues and beginner sessions are springing up across Merseyside. There's a game for every level.
Great news for older players. Padel is played on a smaller court, the walls keep the ball in play, and rallies are friendly rather than punishing. That's why so many players in their 50s, 60s and beyond are taking it up. I'm passionate about coaching older players because I know what it feels like at that age. If you've never picked up a racquet, there has never been a better time to try. Read more in why padel is the perfect sport after 50.
Planning matters
Not every court gets a green light. This week, a council in Berkshire refused retrospective permission for a popular court, citing noise and transport concerns, even though 64 of 67 public comments backed it. The lesson for any new venue is to talk to neighbours and plan for noise from the start. Overall, though, councils approved 85% of the schemes they decided on.
Wondering whether the UK is building too many courts? I looked at that question in The State of UK Padel in 2026.
